Capitol Insurance Group was founded in 2001 by Robert and Linda Harmon with a simple idea: insurance should be personal. After spending years working for large captive agencies, they saw how often customers were shoe-horned into one-size-fits-all policies that left gaps in coverage and money on the table.
They opened a small office on Washington Square in downtown Lansing and started doing things differently — sitting with clients, understanding their lives, and then shopping dozens of carriers to build a plan that actually fit. Word spread fast.
Twenty-five years later, the agency is still family-run. Robert's daughter Sarah now leads the team, the office has grown, and we serve thousands of households and businesses across Mid-Michigan. But the philosophy hasn't changed one bit: know the client, shop the market, earn the trust.
